PETALING JAYA 13 Nov (FMT) : A senior consultant pathologist from Penang is now part of the special committee to look into the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who heads the committee, confirmed the appointment of Hospital Penang\u2019s Dr Bhupinder Singh today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bhupinder was previously a member of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to look into Teoh Beng Hock\u2019s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Besides Bhupinder, former Court of Appeal judge Kamardin Hashim, Universiti Malaya\u2019s (UM) senior consultant histopathologist Dr Looi Lai Meng, criminologist P Sundramoorthy, as well as two Bukit Aman senior officers \u2013 Azari Abd Rahman and Mohammad Abd Hamid \u2013 were also named as committee members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other members previously announced were home minister Hamzah Zainudin, housing and local government minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican, attorney-general Idrus Harun, and inspector-general of police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi said the terms of reference for this special committee will be submitted to the Cabinet as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe will present our findings and recommendations to the Cabinet within six months from the date this special committee was formed (Oct 29),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Adib, a member of the emergency medical rescue services unit from the Subang Jaya fire and rescue station, sustained serious injuries during a riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, on Nov 27, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He died on Dec 17, 21 days after he was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in a critical condition. He was 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Sept 19, 2019, coroner Rofiah Mohamad ruled that \u201cmore than two unidentified persons\u201d had killed the fireman, who succumbed to injuries he sustained when he was sent to the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said it was now up to the police and the attorney-general to bring charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On July 13 last year, former inspector-general of police Abdul Hamid Bador said that no reliable eyewitness had been found to the attack that resulted in the fireman\u2019s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
