KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) —\u00a0MIMOS Berhad has developed the first Range Extended Electric Vehicle (RE-EV) in Malaysia with the cooperation of Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (Modenas) and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MIMOS in a statement said the RE-EV project was through the High Value-Added and Complex Product Development Programme (HVA), an initiative of the government to step up the capability and efficiency of the manufacturing sector in developing complex and high value-added products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\u00a0RE-EV project which took two years was integrated with an internal combustion engine (ICE) to give additional charging to the battery to extend the travelling distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“If compared with hybrid EV, in which ICE and electric motor are the drive train system, RE-EV is a more simplified system as it does not need a drive chain to turn the wheel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This will reduce the concern of riders when driving long distance as the genset would be activated when the battery strength falls to a certain threshold,\u201d according to the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The RE-EV motorcycle which was completed last month is built with a detachable battery that can also be backed up during a battery exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, MIMOS president and chief executive officer, Dr Iskandar Samad said government grants such as HVA proved it is capable of assisting the industry in research and development to boost commercialisation in the high-value economic sector especially to enable Malaysian industries by offering more economic opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is hoped the development of RE-EV motorcycle would the major driver of two-wheel vehicle industry not only in the domestic market but also regional market,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apart from RE-EV motorcycle, MIMOS has also completed two other projects under the HVA grant which are the Application Specific Integrated Circuit <\/em>(ASIC) with the cooperation of Oppstar Technology Sdn Bhd and Asset Optimisation Leveraging on IIOT Technologies for O&G Industry<\/em> in cooperation with Neu Zenith Sdn Bhd which were successfully completed in April 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ASIC is an intellectual property (IP) design project with artificial intelligence (AI) classification to help semiconductor industry players by providing IP ASICs that can be integrated into their set of semiconductor AI chips and providing AI classification on big data chips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the IIOT Technologies for O&G Industry project, MIMOS developed a wireless IoT-based Data Acquisition System for Harsh Conditions (iDASH) to measure various parameters such as vibration, acoustics and temperature, in harsh environments such as the oil and gas industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the statement, MIMOS is also committed to supporting and cooperating with industry players for the success of projects to drive Malaysia\u2019s industries and business towards automation and digitalisation to contribute to the country\u2019s economic growth apart from empowering the industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n — BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) —\u00a0MIMOS Berhad has developed the first Range Extended Electric Vehicle (RE-EV) in Malaysia with the cooperation of Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (Modenas) and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).
