MGTC to increase 2500 EV charging stations in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (Bernama) — The Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) is committed to ensure the public-private partnership will enhance its commitment to increase its current 400 odd charging infrastructures to more than 2,500 units for the use of electric vehicles (EV) throughout Peninsular Malaysia.
Chief executive officer Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor said the Budget 2022 introduction of tax exemptions on EV would not only benefit the consumers but also allow participation from EV manufacturers to populate their EV brands into Malaysia.
“This will certainly pave the way for Malaysia to be a regional manufacturing hub for EV as well as charging stations.
With the growing request for hydrogen vehicles (FCEV) to be used for the long haul, this incentive could generate a variety of zero-carbon vehicles to be introduced in the near future,” he said in a statement.
Under the Budget 2022, the government announced tax exemptions on the import of EV, road tax exemption for EV, and personal tax relief of up to RM2,500 for costs relating to EV charging stations.
