Sukma: Kedah eye 25 golds for top 10 finish

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) — Kedah are targeting to win 25 golds in the 2022 Malaysia Games (Sukma) which will be held in Kuala Lumpur from Sept 16 to 24 this year.

Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said this is a realistic target which would place Kedah among the top 10 contingents in the games.

He said the target was set based on the current performances of the athletes, especially in several sports which are capable of contributing golds to Kedah.

This Kedah contingent have potential in various events, and we are confident of finishing among the top 10. The 25-gold target is neither too high nor too low.

“It would be better if we can exceed that,” he told reporters at a ceremony to present rewards to Kedah athletes who won medals at the recent Hanoi SEA Games and Asian Track Cycling Championships here today.

Asked which sports were targeted for glory, Muhammad Sanusi said the football team were among the gold medal prospects. Kedah lost to hosts Perak in the football final in the 2018 edition.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Sanusi said the state government had allocated another RM1 million for preparing the Kedah contingent for 2022 Sukma.

“This brings the total allocation for 2022 Sukma to RM3 milion. We hope this will motivate the athletes to do better in the games,” he added.
