The Datai Langkawi resort closed temporarily after 17 Covid-19 cases detected

ALOR SETAR Nov 23 (Reuters) : A leading resort in Langkawi has been temporarily closed from today for at least 10 days following the detection of Covid-19 cases among its staff.

State health director Dr Othman Warijo said the management of the Datai Langkawi took its own initiative to suspend operations temporarily to curb the spread of the virus and protect the safety of staff and guests.

He said initial investigations found that the cases involved local transmissions among the resort workers and did not involve any tourist.

The initial cases were detected through regular Covid-19 testing of the resort staff and 17 cases have been confirmed by the state health department so far,” he told Bernama.

Othman said the department was conducting close contact tracing activities and urged any individual with symptoms such as fever, sore throat and severe breathing difficulties to undergo Covid-19 screening and seek immediate treatment at the nearest health facility.

In a separate statement, The Datai Langkawi said it would be closed for a minimum of 10 days.

“We are working with the health ministry. All instructions and SOPs were implemented immediately. This includes the professional deep cleaning and sanitisation of the staff quarters.

“The management of the resort has also independently and proactively initiated a full testing protocol for all team members,” it said.
