KUALA LUMPUR: Nov 29 (NST) A grey suitcase left unattended near a rubbish bin has triggered needless panic among business operators and residents along Jalan Telawi, Bangsar, here, on Saturday.
Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Amihizam Abdul Shukor said the suspicious-looking suitcase was left near a bicycle shop about 4pm, setting off a bomb scare.https://imasdk.googleapis.com/js/core/bridge3.489.0_en.html#goog_1927332687https://imasdk.googleapis.com/js/core/bridge3.489.0_en.html#goog_1927332689https://imasdk.googleapis.com/js/core/bridge3.489.0_en.html#goog_1927332691https://imasdk.googleapis.com/js/core/bridge3.489.0_en.html#goog_1927332693https://imasdk.googleapis.com/js/core/bridge3.489.0_en.html#goog_1927332695
He said business operators and residents nearby had called in about their suspicion that the bag could be a threat or a bomb.
“Those from the Kuala Lumpur police Bomb Squad Unit and police K9 Unit were rushed to the scene to inspect the bag. They inspected the bag, but there was no threat inside,” he said.
Amihizam said checks from a nearby closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) showed a partial image of a man wearing short pants and slippers leaving the bag at the scene.
“We advise the public not to panic. If they come across any similar suspicious objects, just call the authorities,” he said.
He added that anyone with information regarding the suitcase or its owner who had left it behind to contact the nearest police station.
“They can also channel the information to our Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222 or the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999 with the details,” Amihizam said.
