Kelantan police step up border control

PASIR PUTEH, April 18 (Bernama) — The Kelantan Police have stepped up control at the country’s border to prevent smuggling activities, especially involving subsidised goods such as sugar, cooking oil, and chicken ahead of the Aidilfitri celebration.
State police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said the move, conducted since the beginning of Ramadan, would involve various enforcement teams.
“It also involves the Cavalry Unit of the Federal Reserve Unit,” he told this to reporters after the donation presentation and Iftar programme at the Pasir Puteh District Police Headquarters (IPD) here yesterday.
Shafien said this when asked on the possible increase in smuggling of subsidised goods out of the country due to the higher price of the goods in the neighboring country.
Also present at the event was Pasir Puteh district police chief Supt Zaizul Rizal Zakari.
