Sports Development Act being amended to streamline administration of associations, NGOs

KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 (Bernama) — The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) is drafting several amendments under the Sports Development Act 199 (Act 576) to streamline the administration of sports associations and sports-related non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Its deputy minister, Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said the amendments are also aimed to enhance the culture of professionalism in over 11,000 associations registered under Act 576 from 1998 until Dec 31, 2021.
“There are still many issues that need to be improved, namely in terms of management, administration and financial procedures for the sake of development in the sports industry and improvement of athletes’ welfare,” he told reporters after launching the Netball Super League (NSL) 2022 at the Astro Studio in Bukit Jalil here today.
Meanwhile, Ti said KBS was ready to assist the Malaysian Netball Association (PBJM) in driving and continuing the development of women’s sports in the country.
PBJM president Alwiyah Talib said the NSL 2022, which will begin next month, was the ideal platform to select players for the Asian Netball Championship to be held in Singapore in September.
She said the NSL, which will be a warm-up tournament for the national players, would use the round-robin format compared to last year’s group stages.
The NSL will see eight teams – KL Wildcats, Johor Jewels, Selangor Angels, Perak Phoenix, Kedah Sunshine, Negeri Sembilan Venoms, Pahang Tulips and Melaka Mystic – battle it out for three weeks from June 3-26 at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara here.
