MOSTI will build seven more STIE design areas nationwide

TUMPAT, July 24 (Bernama) — The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI) will build seven more Science, Technology, Innovation and Economy (STIE) design areas nationwide to generate income for B40 households, its deputy minister, Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim said.

He said currently there were six STIE design areas in Terengganu, Selangor, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan and Kedah.

“Our aims (is for) every state to have a STIE design area, in line with the ministry’s theme of introducing science and technology to the people, and we do want Malaysians at the grassroots to gain the benefits.

The STIE design areas will provide innovations that offer opportunities to B40 groups, including single mothers, youth and people with disabilities (PwD) to receive training and generate household income through training modules,” he told reporters after officiating the Keluarga Malaysia STIE design area at the Kampung Laut community hall here today.

Elaborating, he said the government is trying to inculcate the STIE culture to produce a knowledgable, skilled society that is creative and innovative through the Quintuple Helix approach, a combination between government, industry, academia and environment.

The ministry, he said, is aiming to create an ecosystem in an economy driven by science, technology and innovation.

Indirectly it will help the expansion of economic development, boost the quality of living and prosperity to achieve the status of a high technology nation by 2030,” he added.
